I recently had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at a community meeting held to discuss setting up a suicide prevention network in Ballarat.

In speaking on the Appropriation (2011/2012) Bill 2011 today I cannot help but feel a great deal of concern for the people of Ballarat West.

I recently not only had the great pleasure of attending the Wendouree West community fashion parade but also was lucky enough to have the honour of being the guest model on the night -- that is a sentence I never thought I would get to say.

Last Sunday, 1 May, I attended the Ballarat Gift, and I would like to congratulate the Ballarat Athletics Club on a successful event.

I stand today in this house to grieve for the callous treatment of the people of Ballarat West at the hands of this government.

The action I seek from the minister is that he guarantee the continuance of the express service from Ballarat to Melbourne.
